Hi, Webb -

Have you ever covered "Girl On the Billboard" in a show?

I didn't know the song until my friend Gil suggested it for this April's Warehouse Jam. Pretty cool tune with what I consider to be a Wilderian feel to it. I particularly like the line where the singer describes himself as a "double-clutchin' weasel like me".

Here's a link to a cover by Chuck Mead for others who don't know the tune:

That's a great song, and a great cover!

Besides the original by Del Reeves, I've heard great covers by Leland Martin, and another by The Road Hammers. And now this Chuck Mead one.

Ever notice how NOBODY ever bothers to ask what product the billboard was advertising? Funny how that works.

There's also an "answer song" by Joyce Paul called "I'm the Girl On the Billboard", with the girl on the billboard expressing her wish to get together with a "good-lookin', gear-jammin' Daddy".

No. it's cool but, honestly doesn't appeal to me to cover. Can't beat the original. Now, Chuck has done it anyway! It is not strong on TUNE...not very melodic. It is cool and I could use the "foghorn" aspect of my voice on it but, not inclined to cover it. Ya'll don't really like it when I'm honest, do ya? I do appreciate it! WW

I totally understand when you say it's cool but doesn't appeal to you for covering.

I feel the same way about "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Great song, but I've never really liked actually playing it.

Thanks for the reply, and the insight into why you've never covered "GOTB".

Glom, what a fun "sequel" song! Really enjoyed that, thanks!
