Savoy Brown and the Grease Band were nowhere to be seen! the other bands on the bill were Deep Purple and Ian Matthews' southen comfort. WW

It was their only American tour. Although they had some success in Europe they never had another No 1. Southern Comfort were a very good and underrated band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHm_rlkzTTo has a fantastic closing solo in it. I'm a bit biased, the Pedal Steel player was my Stepfather. A wonderful man called Gordon Huntley. Its him playing the haunting lead on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIHfuihoz70 Gordon was the top 'Steely' in Europe and worked with Rod Stewart, Elton John and many others as a session man. He died in 1985 and is missed.

The only song I remember doing had the line in it,"Take a message to the keeper." Was that the name of the song. I thought they were very good. WW

(I'm impressed at your powers of recall!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxpUXPR4HYk Its on the Frog City Album. The main difference between Southern Comfort and Iain Matthews was IM took them on a English 'folk' feel whereas SC were much more 'Country Rock.' This was unique in Europe at the time. I think they have a kinship to Poco, The Eagles & Flying Burrito Bros etc. Anyway enough Yabbering on from me. Congratulations WW on a fantastic 2015 and warmest wishes for the new year, to everyone!

I did think they were good. I was there to see the Faces and didn't much dig Deep Purple. They were LOUD!!!!! WW

Not only was the band extremely loud, when Ian Gillan started his patented screaming act it was like a jet taking off right next to your head. So painful it drove us out to the parking lot, where you could hear just fine. Ritchie Blackmore sounded much better from there.

Do you smell something? | I never saw Deep Purple, but my first exposure to them---yes, even before I ever heard "Smoke On The Water"---was via the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS. Deep Purple was listed for several years as the loudest band. From Gibson: Deep Purple This might sound like urban legend, but The Guinness Book of World Records crowned Deep Purple the worlds loudest band after a 1972 concert at Londons 3,000-seat Rainbow Theater that rendered three fans unconscious with the intense pressure created by 117 dB of sound in an enclosed space. As Robert Ripley said, Believe it or not! http://www.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Features/en-us/10-Loudest-Rock-Bands.aspx Hunter

Ritchie Blackmore gave a copy of Fireball to my Stepfather which he gave to me. I still have it and I am going to See Ritchie Blackmore play his first rock Show for 20 years this summer. My 50 ticket is currently being offered by resellers for 1569!
